Welcome to Banners Gate Counselling Centre

Our Mission Statement

Banners Gate Counselling Centre aims to serve the local community by providing an accessible and affordable counselling service in a safe, confidential environment where people are genuinely accepted and their values respected. Individuals are encouraged to value themselves and are given the time and opportunity to make choices for a more satisfying and meaningful way of life.

We are an independent professional voluntary organisation providing affordable counselling for adults over 18 years of age in the local community.

Based on returned questionnaires:

  • 99% of clients rate their experience prior to counselling as good or very good;
  • 99% of clients say they are managing their everyday life better or much better;
  • 96% of clients have achieved some or all of their goals
  • The average overall rating of the counselling provision at BGCC is 9.8 / 10.

We have an open access policy welcoming self-referrals as well as clients referred by the medical profession or by recommendation. Our dedicated suite provides a warm welcoming safe, confidential environment and our aim is to give you the best possible experience of counselling. Remote sessions (via a video platform such as Zoom or by telephone) can be arranged outside office hours by mutual agreement between the counsellor and the client.

We don’t see:

  • Persons who are an immediate risk to self or others.
  • Persons struggling with serious or more complex mental health needs (for example, psychosis, anorexia, schizophrenia).
  • Persons who misuse substances severely e.g. chronic alcohol or drug addicts who require the support of a specialist on that issue.
  • Or persons with severe eating disorders who require the support of a specialist on that issue.

Please note, we are not a crisis service. If you are currently experiencing distressing thoughts and feel you may be at risk of harming yourself or someone else, please contact one of the following:

Your GP Surgery | NHS Direct on 111 | The Samaritans on 116 123. In an emergency dial 999 or go to your local Hospital’s A&E Department.

Our stairlift ensures that our first floor office is accessible to all clients.

The receptionist will receive you and deal with the administration aspects before you are introduced to your counsellor.

We also provide a limited number of placements opportunities to counsellors studying for a Diploma or Degree in local universities including those working towards accreditation with BACP.
